The Northern Edition: Hard Cap Wig Making with Studio Loz

Liverpool

Back in March, the lovely Amy Blackwell from Trio Entertainment messaged me to inquire about a workshop and to invite me to Liverpool. (I had never been to Liverpool before, and arriving on St. Patrick's Day was chaotic!)

Within seconds, Amy's colleague Jordan Bateman, also known as the famous Ruby Slippers, heard about it and booked in too. Jordan, who also works at Trio, and I had briefly conversed on Instagram a few days before the booking, and his Welsh accent and wonderful humor had me in stitches. It was the perfect combination of accents, humor, and skillful hands for a new project on hard cap wigs.

We used the Trio headquarters—an Aladdin's cave of beautiful costumes.

As always, it was a quick turnaround: I packed my bag and was on the train headed to teach some glorious three buns.

We spent the day laughing and getting to grips with a lot of glue. It felt like I blinked, and the day was over. The end results were magnificent. (See professional photos below 🥰)

Amy and Jordan keep me up to date with their ongoing hard cap wig creations, which I love more than anything in the world. (Jordan even has his own designated wig shed. Could that be any more perfect?) Trio Entertainment will have bundles of wigs to choose from for the panto season, this year and forevermore, I'm sure!

Two new fabulous students added to my ever-growing community 💛

Manchester

Having fan-girled over Florencia's wigs for a few years, I opened my message requests to an inquiry from Flo herself and jumped for joy! For someone like Flo to take hold of hard cap wigs excited me massively. It’s all about adding creativity to the skills I teach and transforming it into something we’ve never seen before. And so, yes, Flo, of course I’ll collaborate and head on up to Manchester for a day of hard cap wigs!

Booked onto the course was my wonderful client Tyler Marlow and fabulous Panto Dame —you will see his face plastered all over my Instagram, as he is a lover of my wigs and I equally a lover of his face in my wigs 🤣

Also attending were Lorraine Parry from Bell Costume and Scott, the founder of Molly Limpets Costume Hire!

The day crept up quickly after spending the night in the Manchester ghetto 🤦🏼‍♀️ hahaaa

My lovely students followed as I demonstrated our way through our three-bun wig, and we ended up with four bespoke fitted hard caps ready to roll for panto season! Two ginger and two red, perfectly matched.

It was a wonderful day getting to know new talented makers and personalities, always leaving with excitement about what they will create going forward.

Glasgow

The wonderful Katie Cooper A fabulous makeup/ wigs / hair enthusiast had messaged me to say HEY, Loz you should come to Glasgow, there’s a makeup department you can hire for the day and I’d love to learn. This is how all enquiries start, so I contact MH scotland and asked to use there space, they agreed and almost instantly 4 spaces were booked up for the day .. and a student who I’d taught a two day in London: Vonny wanted to do a top up one day also.

So off I popped to the land of the Scot, to meet some lovely new creatives and see some of beautiful Scotland.. I’d never been before, it truly is beautiful, green and calming. Well not my hotel pick (on the middle of the motorway)🤣 but Vonny took me on a road trip to her homeland Ayreshire and well.. let’s just say I can’t wait to go back!

On the group course I was joined by Ewan: Founder of Utopia Costumes, Nike & Cheryl - teachers and Facepainters, and Katie (of course). A perfect combination of happy creatives.

It was a really lovely day.. lots of stories and good vibes. And to top it all off I managed to get my first EVER group photo!! Honestly you will never know how much this excites me. You shall see it everywhere 😅

Vonny and I spent the day building foundations using different materials, we created the bases of 3x hard cap wigs, followed by a lovely dinner, exploring aaaaand a lot of homework for Vonny!
